An Alone Together focused book club. Sherry Turkle traces how we project feelings onto objects that seem to respond to us, from Furbies and robot pets to companion machines, and asks what we lose when simulated intimacy feels like enough. We will attend Objects of Desire: From The Muppets to Machine Learning, a Living Room Lectures talk by multimedia artist and Muppets devotee Manu Ermecheo, hosted by Adam Nye, at Box of Moonlight. It looks at puppetry as a lens on desire and fantasy, and at what changes when technology makes characters more responsive, personalized, and convincing. Tickets are $25. Free or discounted spots are available for those who need them or want to volunteer (livingroomlecturesnyc@gmail.com). Bar donations support Bread and Puppet Theater. The venue is on the 2nd floor and reached by stairs only. No refunds within three weeks of the event.
